Corporate Social Responsibility
Boyd Gaming is committed to improving the quality of life of the communities in which we live and work. We generously support a variety of deserving charitable organizations and are dedicated to promoting diversity, protecting the environment, and supporting responsible gaming.Diversity
Since its earliest days, Boyd Gaming has been a champion of diversity. In fact, the Boyd family was among the first in the industry to provide equal employment and career opportunities without regard to gender. Over the last several years, Boyd Gaming has developed diversity initiatives that are increasingly effective and proactive. These efforts have helped to build the Company into a more inclusive organization, building a more positive environment for both employees and customers.
At Boyd Gaming, a commitment to diversity is not new. Rather, it's a natural outgrowth of the respect with which our Company has traditionally treated our employees, customers, and communities.
Our key areas of focus include: strengthened hiring and recruiting processes; broadened diversity among management positions; more pronounced procurement partnerships; increased participation in local organizations that support diversity; and enhanced internal communications to help associates understand the advantages of a diverse workforce.
In 2007, Boyd Gaming took another important step in emphasizing our philosophy of inclusion as we developed a new diversity training program. This has provided another opportunity to demonstrate the value of having an organization with a rich mix of backgrounds, talents and viewpoints.
Sustainability
At Boyd Gaming, we are committed to protecting the environment and pursuing sustainable business practices. We conserve energy in a number of ways, including the use of solar water holding tanks, CFL light bulbs, and air heat recovery systems. In addition, various properties have programs in place to recycle everything from cardboard, aluminum and glass to food, grease and oil.
Our Las Vegas linen and uniform laundry facility is the first in the country to receive LEED Silver-certification from the U. S. Green Building Council. It has also received an award from the American Lung Association of Nevada for environmentally friendly practices. The laundry facility was even built using recycled concrete and other reused construction materials.
Community Affairs
Our goal at Boyd Gaming is to make positive contributions to every community of which we are a part. These are the places we call home, and they are as much a part of our lives as they are of the lives of our customers.
Beginning with our founders, Sam and Bill Boyd, our Company has had a tradition of giving generously to improve the quality of life of our friends and neighbors.
Sam Boyd was responsible for introducing the Boys and Girls Clubs of Nevada and the United Way to an emerging Las Vegas community. Both organizations continue to effectively serve the needs of young and old alike, and Boyd Gaming's support of their good work continues to this day. Many of our properties outside of Nevada provide support for these groups in their communities. This is a legacy that is as old as the Company itself.
Responsible Gaming
Boyd Gaming is also a founding member of the National Center on Responsible Gaming, the first national organization devoted solely to funding research on problem and underage gambling. We also support the National Council on Problem Gambling, along with its local affiliates.
Giving Guidelines
Boyd Gaming generously supports worthwhile charitable organizations, and we are careful to direct contributions to the areas where they will have the greatest possible positive impact.
