Corporate Social Responsibility Report
We invite you to review the downloadable Boyd Gaming Corporate Social Responsibility Report to learn more about our efforts to give back to our communities.
DiversitySince its earliest days, Boyd Gaming has been a champion of diversity. In fact, the Boyd family was among the first in the industry to provide equal employment and career opportunities without regard to gender. Over the last several years, Boyd Gaming has developed diversity initiatives that are increasingly effective and proactive. These efforts have helped to build the Company into a more inclusive organization, building a more positive environment for both team members and customers.
At Boyd Gaming, a commitment to diversity is not new. Rather, it's a natural outgrowth of the respect with which our Company has traditionally treated our team members, guests, and communities.
Our key areas of focus include: strengthened hiring and recruiting processes; broadened diversity among management positions; more pronounced procurement partnerships; increased participation in local organizations that support diversity; and enhanced internal communications to help associates understand the advantages of a diverse workforce.
Several years ago, Boyd Gaming took another important step as we developed a new diversity training program. This provides an opportunity to emphasize to our team members the value of having an organization with a rich mix of backgrounds, talents and viewpoints.
SustainabilityAt Boyd Gaming, we are committed to protecting the environment and pursuing sustainable business practices. We conserve energy in a number of ways, including the use of energy-efficient interior and exterior lights, as well as calibrating air-conditioning, heating and lighting systems to better coincide with occupancy. Our Las Vegas linen and uniform laundry facility is the first in the country to receive LEED Silver-certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, and saves about 22 million gallons of water each year through a variety of environmentally-friendly technologies.
To date, our Company has reduced annual electricity usage by nearly 20 million kilowatt-hours, and our goal is to continue lowering our annual consumption by an additional 5 million kWh each year.
Community AffairsOur goal at Boyd Gaming is to make positive contributions to every community of which we are a part. These are the places we call home, and they are as much a part of our lives as they are of the lives of our customers.
Beginning with our founders, Sam and Bill Boyd, our Company has had a tradition of giving generously to improve the quality of life of our friends and neighbors.
Sam Boyd was responsible for introducing the Boys and Girls Clubs of Nevada and the United Way to an emerging Las Vegas community. Both organizations continue to effectively serve the needs of young and old alike, and Boyd Gaming's support of their missions continues to this day. Many of our properties outside of Nevada provide support for these groups in their communities as well. This is a legacy that is as old as the Company itself.
Responsible GamingBoyd Gaming is also a founding member of the National Center on Responsible Gaming, the first national organization devoted solely to funding research on problem and underage gambling. We also support the National Council on Problem Gambling, along with its local affiliates.
Giving GuidelinesBoyd Gaming generously supports worthwhile charitable organizations, and we are careful to direct contributions to the areas where they will have the greatest possible positive effect. To help maximize our impact, we have established some simple guidelines that apply to both monetary and in-kind contributions.
