Kansas Star Casino Donates 350 Pounds of Electronic Waste

06/02/2022

A Boyd Gaming property in the Midwest has joined in on the Company’s nationwide effort to protect the environment.

Kansas Star Casino Hotel Event Center in Mulvane, Kansas donated 350 pounds of electronic waste – such as computers, cell phones, televisions and wires – to local recyclers on Earth Day, April 22.

“All of our items were donated to Wellington E-Waste Recycling Company … just down the road from our property,” said Chad Armstrong, Senior Human Resources Specialist at Kansas Star. “Here they will securely take apart the devices and use them for scrap parts or harvest the metals out of them.”

The drive was a first for the property, which was looking for ways to get more involved with the Company’s environmental initiatives. Team members brought their acceptable items to a drop-off area on the team member patio in droves.

“Who doesn’t have old computers, tablets … just laying around gathering dust?” noted Armstrong. He said that the property will continue to find ways to help the environment moving forward.

Electronic waste, or e-waste, refers to used electronics that are thrown away or donated to a recycler. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), e-waste contains materials, such as lead or copper, that can be reused, refurbished or recycled; doing so minimizes what ends up in a landfill and helps prevent toxic waste.
