Stan Smith Receives Biomedical Achievement Award on Behalf of The American Red Cross
3/29/2023
In February, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada honored 12 local volunteers at the annual Volunteer Recognition Event ceremony at the Discovery Children’s Museum. Stan Smith, Vice President of Emergency Management and General Services at Boyd Gaming, was awarded the Biomedical Achievement Award, which is given to any volunteer who has fostered innovative practices to achieve strategic priorities.
In 2022, Stan was instrumental in the implantation of the Battle of the Badges blood drive initiative in Southern Nevada. This unique drive creates a friendly rivalry between Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers and firefighters from the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and Clark County Fire, while increasing community engagement, visibility and blood supply nationwide. Donors vote for their favorite first responder group, and the team with the most votes at the end of the drive is declared the winner.
As an outgoing board chair, Stan lit the fire and inspired and
supported three separate Battle of the Badges event. In total, he helped to
collect nearly 340 units of blood to help people in need. Additionally, Stan
has continued to support these efforts in 2023 by becoming a Community
Volunteer Lead (CVL) and a member of the Biomedical committee for the Southern
Nevada board.
“It was great to see our first responders getting engaged at the
Battle of the Badges Drive,” said Stan Smith. “I was at the blood drive
donating blood when I watched 32 recruits from the Clark County Fire Department
file in to support this incredible organization. I am thrilled to receive this
year’s Biomedical Achievement Award and look forward to some successful
activations in 2023.”
Congratulations on your recent award, Stan!
